There was a book, a young adult science fiction novel that involved a UV sterilization robot. It was called "The Uglies" (part of The Uglies / Pretties / Specials trilogy by Scott Westerfield).
UV sterilization robots are a really neat concept, and could potentially be very helpful in keeping city streets clean and reducing the spread of disease. I think everyone would be ok walking down a street that was constantly being cleaned by an UV sterilization drone. It would actually be kinda cool to see all the dirt, dust, and trash constantly being sucked up and cleaned off the street.

There hasn't been anything announced about that, but it might be part of it. Most surveillance is infrared, though, but I could see UV also being used for certain applications. Like, imagine a robot that was constantly driving around all city streets, equipped with UV disinfection lights. It could keep itself clean, and it could also use the UV disinfection lights to clean everything else around it--including the streets, buildings, trees, and even people. It could create a bubble of UV disinfection around it, cleaning up the entire city as it went.

UV disinfection is used to sterilize the interior of hospital rooms, and it's also widely used in food processing facilities, for example to sterilize packaged food. I'm not sure how effective these lights are, but if they can kill germs like they kill germs with UV sterilization in hospitals they should help reduce the spread of disease.
