Recognition of the bolshevik government by the United States, if it can be done without embarrassing the allies, is now favored by Col. William Boyce Thompson, who has recently returned from Russia with first-hand information. It is certain that Col. Thompson's views will be given serious consideration here, and there is reason to believe that a definite pronouncement of the American government's policy toward Russia will be one of the next important developments in the international situation.
