Authorities have identified the two men killed in a
small plane crash Thursday afternoon in Sussex County after leaving an airport in Caldwell.
Thomas P. Fisher, 54, of Hopatcong, and Glen M. Devries, 49, of New York, New York, were identified as the men found after a single-engine Cessna 172 went down in Hampton Township, according to New Jersey State Police.
The plane went down in a wooded area near Lake Kemah in Hampton Township, according to the Federal Aviation Administration.
Fisher and Devries departed Essex County Airport in Caldwell and were headed to Sussex Airport when the FAA alerted public safety agencies to look for the missing aircraft around 3 p.m. Emergency crews found the wreckage around 4 p.m., the FAA said.
Public records show Fisher obtained certifications as both a flight and ground instructor and was certified to fly private and commercial aircraft, while DeVries had a student pilot license.
DeVries also had a single-engine plane registered in his name, although it was not immediately clear if that was the same aircraft that went down on Thursday.
The National tras*portation Safety Board, which is leading the investigation, did not immediately return calls seeking more details.
