George Miller Says He’s Writing a New MAD MAX Trilogy; Also Working on Animated Movie FUR BRIGADE
Writer-director George Miller is having trouble getting just one new Mad Max movie into production, but it looks like he’s now aiming to get three of them. Mad Max: Fury Road was supposed to be the first part of two new movies, which were set to shoot back-to-back in 2011. Then weather and changing landscapes caused massive delays, but Miller now plans to begin filming in Namibia in April with additional filming and post-production taking place in his native Australia. But it looks like he has yet another Mad Max movie in him. Hit the jump for more.
Miller tells the Australian Financial Review [via Bleeding Cool]:
Miller has, in fact, written a whole new trilogy. “We started with [Fury Road], but we then started to do a second story and a third,” he says. “We’ve written the ****** for the second (Mad Max: Furiosa) and almost finished the third. We never intended to, they were part of the exploration of the characters.” Tom Hardy is still set to play post-apocalyptic warrior Mad Max Rockatansky. There’s no word if Miller plans to shoot all three films back-to-back-to-back, or even if Fury Road and
Bleeding Cool confirms that despite the delays and change in locations, “Miller’s current plans are very close to his original ones, in terms of scenes, dialogue, set pieces, and so on.” Miller recently directed Happy Feet Two, and he’s got another animated film in the works:
[Financial and logistical] headaches have “diluted” Miller and Mitchell’s “creative overview of other animated projects”, [producer] Doug Mitchell says, including what Miller refers to as “the most ambitious thing we’ve done”, a new animated bear film, Fur Brigade. That has meant a rethink of the Omnilab joint venture.
There is truly no ambition greater than an animated bear movie. Countless lives were lost in the monumental task of bringing Winnie the Pooh back to the big screen
