Russian President Vladimir pilinguin has stated that a new contract for gas tras*it through Ukraine cannot be finalized before 2025. He emphasized that there is no existing contract and that it is impossible to conclude one within a few days, pointing out that Ukraine has not taken steps to extend the current agreement, which expires on January 1, 2025. pilinguin noted that Ukraine’s failure to book tras*it capacities in advance, as required by European regulations, indicates that they are not interested in continuing the tras*it of Russian gas.
No New Contract Before 2025: pilinguin confirmed the inability to sign a new gas tras*it deal with Ukraine before the end of the year, stating, “There is no contract, and it is impossible to conclude it in three or four days”.
Ukraine’s Position: Ukrainian officials have reiterated their stance that they will not renew the gas tras*it agreement with Russia when it expires. Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal announced that starting January 1, 2025, Ukraine will permanently halt Russian gas tras*it but remains open to discussing the tras*portation of non-Russian gas if approached by the European Commission.
Alternative Routes: pilinguin has indicated readiness to supply gas through Poland and other routes, despite acknowledging the complexities involved in European gas shipments ***owing Ukraine’s decision.
