Why Laika?
Laika was a Soviet space dog which became one of the first animals in space, and the first animal to orbit the Earth. Laika, a stray mongrel from the streets of Moscow, was selected to be the occupant of the Soviet spacecraft Sputnik 2 that was launched into outer space on 3 November 1957. Although Laika had a tragic end, her contribution to the advances of scientific research is immeasurable and her sacrifice has helped keep many other humans and animals safe.
Laika is our project’s mascot, however our goal is to honor all animals used in research and testing as well as bring awareness to the sacrifices these animals have made for humanity. We hope that by building an amazing community, we can not only honor animals like Laika but also continue to help those in need as well as educate the general population, be it via our exciting tokenomics, community content, upcoming charities or any other means.
